They are taking over... With there stupidly big factories,cheap,crimally cheep labour,with no real regard for their environmental impact or even what the product is.As long as they can make it cheap enough and fast enough,they can flood the market with a wave of cheap imitations that to the undiscerning eye seem like a right bargain. Would you drive a porche with a lada engine? Buy a custom surfboard from a local shaper,a respected surfer who knows the breaks that you will be surfing on the bespoke surfboard he has especially designed for you,to meet the needs of your environment and match your surfing ability. Buy local Put your money back into the comunity,If your close enough to a beach that is worth surfing,chances are you wont be more than two hours from a respected local shaper. Future job opportunities If we are not carefull the shapers will die out,like big supermarkets have taken over.There will be no young kids coming up through the ranks.Big buisness will have strangled the locals.That is lots of people out of work,another area of British/local expertise lost overseas. Surfing as a sport Without the technical abilities of the lolcal shapers ,glassers ,sanders and polishers,the standard of surfing in the future would certainly suffer throughout the land.Dont you think its time we kicked some ass!
